2. Under Parents, click on Blackboard Connect Parent Portal
3. To create your account you must have your child’s student ID (lunch number 7-digit format) and one other piece of information that the school has on file for you such as phone number or email address. (If you are an employee you will need your employee ID number).
4. You can access your portal account from your Smartphone. Download the app at iOS or Android.

Special Student Services Corner

School Choice is Now Open For 2/1-2/29
Any resident student of the Cobb County School District may apply for a School Choice transfer. Selected students may complete the highest grade of that particular school before having to re-apply if the student maintains acceptable attendance, behavior, and academic performance, and are responsible for transportation to and from school. Parents/guardians will be notified via telephone and/or e-mail prior to Spring Break. Charter schools and new schools are exempt. Current fifth and eighth grade choice students applying to continue in the choice school feeder pattern will be given first priority in the lottery process; then siblings of current choice students; then new sibling groups; then a lottery process to fill remaining seats. Students not chosen will be placed on a waiting list based on the outcome. Click HERE for application information.

Legislative 101

Opportunity School Districts (OSD)
In November, the following proposed state constitutional amendment will appear before voters: "Shall the Constitution of Georgia be amended to allow the state to intervene in chronically failing public schools in order to improve student performance?"
Georgia PTA's Stance on OSD:

  • Parents will lose their say in local school and access to their locally-elected school boards. The OSD superintendent is accountable only to the sitting Governor.
  • This plan does not address WHY schools are failing or how to improve the schools
  • The OSD will take any school that has "failed" without definition of "failure."
  • OSD gives the state control over the local tax dollar and local school facilities.
  • You can learn more by watching this video.

Student Advocacy Day

Save the Date: Georgia PTA Day at the Capitol
Tuesday, March 1, 2016 is Georgia PTA Day at the Capitol! This day is a opportunity for PTA leaders and members to join other advocates at the Georgia State Capitol to speak with elected officials to advocate our legislative priorities for the children and families of Georgia. In addition, this will be an important opportunity to invite your legislators to the luncheon in appreciation for their hard work and commitment to our issues. For more information click HERE. If you are interested in attending please EMAIL Kristine Schwartz.

Georgia PTA Legislative Priorities for 2016
Georgia PTA serves to strengthen our collective voices to engage and empower families and communities to advocate on a broad range of issues that affect the lives of children. The Georgia PTA Board of Directors adopted the 2016 legislative priorities based on critical issues surveyed by the Georgia PTA membership. Legislative Update
Gov. Deal spoke to the Georgia General Assembly about the work of the Education Reform Commission and had some specific words for teachers. Read the full speech HERE. In sum, he stated that Georgia will take it slow with the ideas in the Education Reform Commission, and may not propose legislation this year. He also spoke to involving teachers in the reform process. This year, he is proposing monies that are intended to fund a 3% raise for teachers and other state employees. Why Average Typing Speed is Important?

Touch typing is "must have" skill in our digital world. With touch typing, it is important to start young. Studies have shown that for people ages 18 and younger, it is two times easier to learn to touch type properly. Touch typing may be the most important skill you can give them. Click HERE for the article. Click HERE to support your student's education
